Enjoy an Atlantic Ocean Adventure Around the Bahamas

2yThe Bahamas lay claim to around 180,000 square miles of Atlantic Ocean, with the country being made up of more than 700 islands. As a yachting destination, it therefore offers plenty of open space and ports of call to enjoy. Anyone planning to take a trip to this beautiful part of the world should make a stop at the locations shown below.

New Providence

This is home to the capital city, Nassau, and is the most populated island of the Bahamas. This makes it a great starting point for a tour and there is certainly plenty to see and do on the island. Arrive at the right time and you can experience the Junkanoo Parade, which takes place three times a year and is a celebration of Bahamian music and dance. Visit Fort Montagu or Government House for some history and a trip to Athol Island provides the chance to get in the water and enjoy some swimming.

Grand Bahama

This is the most northerly of the islands and lies at a distance of around 56 miles from Florida, USA. Its attractions make it a definite must-stop destination and there are plenty to choose from. Some of the highlights include the underwater cave systems in Lucayan National Park, the snorkeling at Deadman’s Reef, and the gambling at the island’s casino. However, there is plenty more to enjoy on Grand Bahama to make it a fun destination.

Harbour Island

No visit to the Bahamas is complete without spending some time relaxing on a beach and a trip to one of the out islands is the best idea for this. One of the most beautiful is Harbour Island, with pink sand making it a picturesque location. There are three miles of beaches to enjoy, with these generally being between 50 and 100 feet wide. This means plenty of space to find a secluded spot and just chill out in the sunshine.

The flamingo is the national bird of the Bahamas and Inagua is the place to see these beautiful birds in the wild. The island is home to three national parks, so if your plans include some wildlife watching, it is the perfect stopping off location. Apart from the flamingos, there are also Bahama parrots, hummingbirds, sea turtles, and lizards to see.
Thoughts of the Bahamas usually conjure up images of beautiful sandy beaches, calm turquoise waters, and brilliant sunshine. The islands identified above have all these attractions and more to make them paradise locations to take in on a yachting trip to the country.
